What
is Public Relations?
According
to the Public Relations Institute of Australia, public relations
is the deliberate, planned and sustained effort to establish and
maintain mutual understanding between an organisation and its public.
At
Media Link, we view ourselves as strategic distributors of information.
If an organisation has a message it needs to communicate to a target
market, we can assist in identifying the correct approach.
There
are a number of words commonly applied to public relations such
as spin, gloss and stunt and movies such as "Wag the Dog" assist
in perpetrating these opinions.
However,
professional public relations is recognised by most large organisations
as essential in the communication process. Because of its strategic
nature, many public relations professionals are becoming involved
in corporate communications policy and are instrumental in establishing
an organisation's corporate image with target audiences.
Tactics
such as media relations, crisis communication, copy-writing and
event management are all part of the public relations toolkit and
the public relations professional is the best person to wield them.
